Abstract

This article raises the importance of the study of the game and the ways in which it is embedded in everyday life, this task has not been simple in part because various disciplines of the social sciences argue heatedly as to what purpose to carry out a study on playing and also because -as Hamayon (2016) explains- our references on the subject are relatively few. However, it´s a relevant task that reveals the social situation in which we find ourselves, with this the study of videogames is proposed as a necessary task that begins with a brief historical synthesis of its development to later describe some reflections that emerged during my field work with video gamers in Mexico City. The primary objective is to point out that the growing interest in transforming digital games into electronic sports is not coincidental.
