La máscara de la feminidad: el desarrollo de la industria cosmética facial para mujeres y la configuración de la identidad social femenina

Resumen

La práctica cosmética facial es una actividad humana ancestral que ha sido ejercitada por hombres y mujeres de las más diversas civilizaciones y culturas. Dicha práctica ha comprendido una innumerable cantidad de sentidos según usos y costumbres de cada colectivo social particular. Sin embargo, desde hace aproximadamente doscientos años el ejercicio cosmético facial suele ser considerado como una actividad realizada predominantemente por mujeres. Tanto es así que parece formar parte del ejercicio mismo de la identidad social femenina. En este artículo habremos de revisar cómo la industria cosmética ha contribuido a la vinculación de la identidad social femenina con el ejercicio de rituales cosméticos para el embellecimiento y cuidado de la piel de los rostros de las mujeres.
